ESL Curriculum For Lower Beginner

Target Audience: ESL learners with little or no prior knowledge of English.

Goal: Build basic communication skills for everyday life situations.

Duration: 12-16 weeks (can be adjusted based on class frequency)

Structure: 10 units focusing on key language skills.


Unit 1: Introductions and Greetings

Objectives:

Learn to introduce oneself and others.

Practice common greetings and responses.

Vocabulary:

Hello, Hi, Goodbye

My name is...

What’s your name?

How are you? Fine, thank you.

Grammar:

Basic sentence structure: "I am," "You are," "He/She is."

Personal pronouns: I, you, he, she.

Activities:

Role-play: Introduce yourself to a partner.

Matching activity: Match greetings with responses.


Unit 2: Numbers and Alphabet

Objectives:

Learn to count numbers 1-20.

Familiarize with the English alphabet.

Vocabulary:

Numbers 1-20.

Letters A-Z (both uppercase and lowercase).

Grammar:

Singular and plural: "one apple," "two apples."

Activities:

Listening: Practice counting with audio.

Writing: Copy numbers and letters.

Group activity: Say and write your phone number.


Unit 3: Classroom Objects and Commands

Objectives:

Recognize common classroom objects.

Follow basic classroom instructions.

Vocabulary:

Pen, pencil, book, chair, table, bag.

Sit down, stand up, open, close, listen.

Grammar:

Imperatives (commands): Sit, open, close.

Activities:

Classroom scavenger hunt.

Simon Says: Practice commands.


Unit 4: Colors and Shapes

Objectives:

Learn basic colors and shapes.

Describe simple objects using color and shape.

Vocabulary:

Colors: Red, blue, green, yellow, black, white.

Shapes: Circle, square, triangle.

Grammar:

Adjective-noun structure: "Red circle," "blue square."

Activities:

Color and shape matching game.

Art activity: Color and label shapes.


Unit 5: Family and People

Objectives:

Talk about family members and people.

Use "who" questions.

Vocabulary:

Family: Mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather.

Activities:

Family tree: Draw and label.

Unit 6: Daily Routines

Objectives:

Talk about daily activities.

Use the present simple tense for habits.

Vocabulary:

Grammar:

Activities:

Class schedule: Describe daily routines.

Pair work: Ask and answer about your daily routine.


Unit 7: Food and Drinks

Objectives:

Learn food and drink vocabulary.

Order simple meals and drinks.

Drinks: Water, milk, juice, tea.

Speaking assessment: Introduce yourself and talk about your family, daily routine, or favorite food.

Listening assessment: Listen and respond to basic questions.

Writing assessment: Write simple sentences using vocabulary from the units.

Game-based review: Bingo, matching, and other games to reinforce learning.
